FAQs

What types of study schedules are available?

We currently offer a variety of study opportunities. The majority of these studies require overnight stays in our clinic.  You can choose between:

  • Weekend Studies - a weekend study typically checks in after 5:00 P.M. on Friday and checks out before 9:00 A.M. on Monday.
  • Weekday Studies - a weekday study is less than five consecutive days in our clinic and includes at least one full weekday of confinement.
  • Long-term Studies - a long-term study is a stay of five or more consecutive days.

Please call our Call Center at (800) 609-7297 or (402) 474-7297 to learn more about our current available studies.

Do I need to have a medical condition to participate in a study?

Most studies require participants to be healthy and in good medical condition; however, we occasionally conduct research that requires participants with a specific health condition such as asthma, diabetes, arthritis, high cholesterol or diseases of the cardiovascular or central nervous system.

For more information on which study is right for you call (800) 609-7297 or (402) 474-7297.

Has anyone died while participating in a study at the Lincoln Clinic?

Since we were established in 1969, no one has died while on a study or as a result of a study conducted at the Lincoln Celerion facility. Every study is conducted under complete medical supervision. The FDA, the Institutional Review Board and Celerion medical staff have reviewed each protocol to ensure the safety of our participants.  For more information about the steps taken to ensure participant safety, please our safety page.

Is there a maximum number of studies I can participate in?

You can only participate in one study at a time and there is no limit to the number of studies you can participate in over time.  There are set periods of time in which you cannot participate between the end of one study and the start of another.  This time is commonly called the 'washout period'.  The minimum washout period between studies is 30 days, although this amount of time changes with each study.

How do I qualify to participate in a study?

Each study has a specific set of qualifications that must be met before participating.  Some general participant qualifications are listed below:
  1. Acceptable Address
Participants must have an acceptable address. This permanent mailing address must be registered with the U. S. Postal Office and be within a certain proximity of the Celerion site.

  2. Acceptable Phone Number
Participants must have a valid phone number (cell numbers are acceptable). Without a direct phone number, it is difficult to relay study information and confirm appointments.  Message only phone numbers are not accepted.

  3. Health Status
Participants must meet specific health criteria. In general, we look for participants that are not currently taking medications and that meet the study's medical safety guidelines.

What is the role of Celerion in drug development?

The FDA requires prescription and over-the-counter medications to be thoroughly tested for safety and effectiveness before being marketed. Celerion conducts clinical research on behalf of drug development companies to determine how long it takes a medication to work and the potential side effects of taking the medication. This research ensures medications meet established quality standards and protect the public.

What is the difference between the Omaha and Lincoln sites?

Our clinic in Lincoln is the main site for Celerion. This is the location where you check-in and complete the study. Your initial screening and doctor's exam may also take place at the Lincoln location.

The Omaha site, located near 77th and Dodge Streets is a screening facility, which gives participants the option of completing the initial screening and doctor's exam at the Lincoln site or the Omaha site.  Participants wanting to screen for a study at the Omaha facility can inquire about doing so by calling our Call Center at (800) 609-7297 or (402) 474-7297.

Where will I be sleeping during my study?

Many of our studies require one or more overnight stays in our facility.  Every participant is assigned a sleeping area at check-in.  In most cases you will share a bunk area with another participant.  When sharing a bunk area, roommates are assigned by gender.
