The Participation Process

1. Creating a File

You can get details of current studies by calling or visiting the available studies section on our Website. If you are interested in a particular study you can schedule a screening appointment by calling our Call Center at (800) 609-7297 or (402) 474-7297.

The very first time you contact Celerion we will create a participant file for you, which is a confidential file that houses your personal information.  After your file is created our study participant representatives will be able to reference the file to see which studies you may qualify for every time you contact us.

During your initial registration with Celerion, you will be asked to provide personal information such as your social security number (for tax purposes) and contact information as well as to answer several questions related to  age, gender, ethnicity, height/weight, and your medical history. These questions ensure that you meet the minimum criteria required by Celerion and other study specific requirements.  If after reviewing your medical history file you meet the minimum criteria, you may schedule a time to come to the site for a screening.

2. Screening

You must pass the minimum qualifications for the study before you can schedule a screening appointment.  Minimum qualifications  typically include age, weight, ethnicity, gender, and various medical history requirements.

Your safety is our primary concern, so the first step in the screening process is informing you of the details of the study. You will be given a menu, time and events calendar, and an informed consent Form (ICF) to read and review. The ICF includes information regarding potential side effects of the product being tested and the rationale of the study. A trained medical professional will review the ICF with you and answer any questions you may have.  If at any time during the study process you feel decide not to continue, you may withdraw from the study.

During screening you will also complete a medical history questionnaire. We recommend you bring important names or dates concerning your medical history (i.e. dates of surgeries and medications you are currently taking). Once you complete the medical history packet, you will proceed to the lab work portion of the appointment.  Celerion staff will measure your height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and collect urine and blood samples. Screening may also include other study specific procedures, such as allergy tests and x-rays. The initial lab work process takes approximately 90 minutes.

3. Results

A the end of your screening appointment you will be instructed as to the date and time of your results call.  The Celerion results call works like a radio station contest; the sooner you contact Celerion in the timeframe given, the better chance you will have to continue on in the study process as the time in which you call may determine the order in which you are placed on the study. Celerion uses a competitive call method to give all volunteers an equal chance of participating in a study. If you don't secure a spot on your chosen study, you will be offered a priority placement on the next available study.

4. Physical

Your physical examination is scheduled after you pass your screening lab work and are offered a provisional place on the study.

A Celerion physician will conduct the exam, which normally takes approximately 20 minutes. You may ask the Physical Investigator any study related questions that were not addressed at your screening.  Additionally, Celerion will conduct an electrocardiogram (ECG) during the physical appointment.  In total, physical exams take approximately 45 minutes to complete.

5. Acceptance

At the end of your physical exam appointment you will be informed of your exam results and whether you will continue in the study process.

If you are provisionally accepted, you will be given the date and time to check-in and any special instructions to follow prior to check-in. Placement in a study is never guaranteed -- final placement decisions are made by the study physician and the client.

You will receive a reminder call the day before check-in. If you cannot participate, call us immediately, as failure to check-in can result in restricting your eligibility to participant in studies at Celerion.

6. Check In
