Do I need to have a medical condition to participate in a study?
Most studies require participants to be healthy and in good medical condition; however, we occasionally conduct research that requires participants with a specific health condition such as asthma, diabetes, arthritis, high cholesterol or diseases of the cardiovascular or central nervous system.

Has anyone died while participating in a study?
Since we were established in 1969, no one has died while on a study or as a result of a study conducted at Celerion. Every study is conducted under complete medical supervision. The FDA, The Institutional Review Board and our medical staff have reviewed and implemented each protocol for safety.
Are there a maximum number of studies I can participate in?
You can only participate in one study at a time. However, there is no limit to the amount of studies you can participate in, although there are statutory periods of time, called 'washouts' between the end of one study and the start of another when you cannot participate.
How do I qualify to participate in a study?
Each study has a specific set of qualifications that must be met before participating. Some general participant qualifications are listed below:
- Acceptable Address
Participants must have an acceptable address. This permanent mailing address must be registered with the U. S. Postal Office.
- Acceptable Phone Number
Participants must have a valid direct phone number (cell numbers are acceptable). Without a direct phone number, it is difficult to relay study information and confirm appointments. No message numbers are accepted.
- Normal Healthy Population
Participants must meet specific healthy population criteria. In general, we look for participants that are not currently taking medications, meet the study's medical safety guidelines and fall within the acceptable age, height and weight ranges.
What is the role of Celerion in drug development?
The FDA requires prescription and over-the-counter drugs to be thoroughly tested for safety and effectiveness before being marketed. Celerion conducts clinical research on behalf of drug development companies to determine how long it takes a drug to work and potential side effects of taking the medication. This research ensures compounds meet established quality standards and protects the public.
Where will I be sleeping?
Many of our studies require one or more overnight stays in our facility. Every participant is assigned a sleeping area at check-in. In most cases you will share a bunk area similar to those pictured below. Common areas within the clinic are shared by all participants and bunk areas are assigned by sex.
